My Crazy Thoughts
my thoughts on various topics.

Saturday was Jenn's birthday and Jenn's parents invited me over to their house for a clam bake. I'd never been to one before so it was interesting. I had my first maine lobster, it was excellent, as was all of the food. Both of her parents make excellent clam chowder. We all had a good time. They ordered from thelobsterguy.com so maybe some day I will put together a clam bake, it really was fun. The only thing is that it's pretty expensive but for a special occasion I think it would be fun.

While I was there her brother called. He is in the army. Somewhere in Iraq or one of those places. He was lucky enough to get R&R on her birthday so that he could call. It doesn't sound like things are going too well over there. Her father told me that the heat over there has messed up his system so now whenever the temp goes below 90 degrees he has to go put on a sweater. While she was on the phone she found out that they are only getting 3 bottles of water a day. That's not even the recommended amount of water for a normal person. These are guys who are living in 120 degree weather. I can't imagine what we're thinking keeping them over there and not even providing basic supplies. Aparently we've already lost a few people to heat-stoke. I know it would be hard for us to back out of this now, but really it's time to wrap things up.
Begin political rambling
My effective speaking professor said the other day something about 51% of the US population now says that they would not vote for Bush again. This almost sounds like good news until you realise that there isn't a good candidate against him. We have just over a year until election. They should be well into campaigning. And yet nothing has begun yet. Where the hell is the democratic party. Get it together guys. Pick one decent candidate, back him, get him elected, and lets put the country back together. Let's worry about the or own countrymen and the danger they are in, let's pull ourselves back out of this national debt (a debt which we didn't have four years ago, and which could have been prevented). Let us worry about something other than the fact that our friends, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, etc... are dying from simple dehydration. Let us again worry about how Bush is going to threaten the environment by drilling in Alaska and the gulf. Let's focus again on Enron and the energy crisis that we conveniently forgot about. Let us end this war quickly, let's give the iraqi's back their country so that they as a people can run it, let's stop chasing Saddam until we are sure whether he is dead or not.. Let us worry about ourselves again. The world seems to prefer it when we are self-involved, and we seem to do better when that is the case.
